A ground source heat pump (GSHP) is an energy efficient, renewable energy solution that extracts heat from the ground using buried collectors to provide hot water and heating to buildings.

They need electricity to run but use less electrical energy than the heat they produce. The pump performs the same as a boiler but uses ambient heat from the ground, rather than burning fuel to generate heat. A GSHP helps to reduce your carbon footprint and can even lower your energy bills.

An air source heat pump (ASHP) is a low-carbon way to heat your home. In the right property, an air source heat pump can be a low-carbon and cost-effective solution for space heating and hot water.

Unlike the GSHP an ASHP is sited externally and uses the same technology that keeps a fridge or freezer cool, but in reverse.

ASHP extracts warmth from the outside air to produce space heating and hot water. They can produce enough heat down to -15° meaning they can adequately and efficiently heat homes and businesses in our climate 12 months of the year.
